Phyllis was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and resides in Wheeling with her husband Ron. She was named “Graduate of the Year,” in 1992 at the age of thirty-six. Besides her love for writing, she is also an artist. Her true passion in life has always been horses; and rode until she was fifty.
It has taken her twenty years to write “Hey Vic!” Not because she’s slow, but once you read her book—you’ll understand.
She gave birth to one son, Jason, but has had many sons and daughters over the years, she claims as her own. Her beloved Jason and grandchildren bring much joy and happiness to her life.
Over the course of the memoir, the author weaves between childhood horror stories and how the abuse shaped her adult life. Though it reads like a novel, this book is not fiction. All the stories are true.
In “Hey Vic!,” Phyllis shares a brutally honest and deeply moving account of a life shaped by trauma, neglect, and every form of abuse. Born into chaos and raised by a mother who didn’t want kids — especially girls — and a father who blew every dime on booze, gambling, and chasing women, Phyllis lived in constant fear of her parents.
The abuse began at age 3 or 4 and continued until she was 12 and a half. Amid the darkness, a quiet defiance grew: She learned how not to be a parent. With a fierce will to live — and later, to thrive — Phyllis leads readers through harrowing lows and courageous strength.
“Hey Vic!” is a testament to the human spirit. It offers hope, insight, and healing for survivors, professionals, and those seeking to understand neglect and physical, mental, and sexual abuse.
